Biography

The West End String Quartet came together in the fall of 2005 because of their shared passion for chamber music. Since that time the quartet has been entertaining audiences across New England with an exciting and varied repertoire of chamber music.

This summer, WESQ has been invited to Bravo! Music Festival as the "Young Artists" ensemble in residence. Already this season the quartet has placed as finalists in the MTNA Eastern Division Competition, performed on the first of a series of concerts at Wesleyan University for the Ives Vocal Marathon, collaborating with performers from Bang on a Can All-Stars, Wesleyan University Faculty, and Connecticut Opera, and recorded Pittsburgh composer Steve Kornicki's "Horizontal Color Forms #15".

The West End String Quartet

In their inaugural year, the West End String Quartet presented concerts on the River Crossings Concert Series in Hartford, Connecticut and for the Arts Institute of Western Maine. The quartet also traveled to Baltimore to premiere Ruby Fulton's "The Slow Revolution". Repeat performances of this work were sponsored by an Encore grant from the American Composers Forum.

The West End String Quartet strives to bring new and uncommon repertoire to their concerts, pairing them with traditional works. Each concert includes spoken notes that give a personal perspective to each piece, making unfamiliar works accessible to new audiences as well as seasoned classical music-lovers. This innovative programming and the strong rapport the quartet develops with audiences have led to repeat engagements at the Universalist Church of West Hartford, the River Crossings Concert Series, and the Arts Institute of Western Maine.
